Dubai, 29 September (PTI) Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav said he had never before seen a champion team not being given a trophy after winning a tournament, but also added that his real trophies are his 14 ‘invaluable’ teammates.
India won the Asia Cup by defeating Pakistan for the third time within two weeks. Suryakumar and his team
had refused to accept the trophy from Mohsin Naqvi, the President of the Asian Cricket Council and Pakistan Cricket Board, and Pakistan's Interior Minister. Naqvi is known for his anti-India stance.
The Indian team did not take the trophy from Naqvi, and Naqvi descended from the stage, taking the trophy with him.
Suryakumar said in the post-match press conference, ‘‘Since I started playing or watching cricket, I have never seen a winning team not being given a trophy. And that too, a trophy won with such hard work. It's not like we won easily. We won this tournament with a lot of effort.’’
